Helsinki, 14 June 2023 - The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has officially announced the 29th batch of 2 substances of very high concern (SVHC), bringing the total number of substances on the SVHC list (also known as the Candidate List) to 235.

On February 17, 2023, ECHA published a public consultation on two substances that are proposed to be identified as substances of very high concern (SVHC). Related enterprises may make comments on the two substances before April 3, 2023.

On January 17, 2023, ECHA added nine substances to the Candidate List of SVHCs. The Candidate List of substances of very high concern (SVHCs) now contains 233 substances that may have serious effects on people or the environment.

The European Commission is preparing an amending act proposing to introduce new hazard classes for endocrine disruptors in the CLP Regulation (EC No. 1272/2008). Within one year of the entry into force of the amending act, the EU Commission shall ask European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) to assess whether resorcinol meets the class of endocrine disruptors and whether it should be identified as a substance of very high concern (SVHC).

10 Jun. 2022, ECHA has added 1 substance into the Candidate List of SVHCs. The Candidate List of substances of very high concern (SVHCs) now contains 224 substances that may have serious effects on people or the environment.

On 4 Mar. 2022, ECHA has released a proposal on identifying N-(hydroxymethyl)acrylamide as a substance of very high concern for its carcinogenicity (Article 57a) and mutagenicity (Article 57b). This proposal is still under public consultations, interesting parties may send their comments to ECHA before 19 Apr. 2022. The substance will be added into the SVHC Candidate List after it passes the public consultation.

In the end of January 2022, the European Commission has formally voted on whether to add resorcinol into SVHC Candidate List. Results show that most of the member states agree to list this substance as SVHC due to its endocrine disrupting properties. According to the majority rule, resorcinol will finally be added into the SVHC Candidate List.
