NHFPC Approved 10 Kinds of New Food Raw Materials in China

On June 8, 2017, National Health and Family Planning Commission of China (NHFPC) released an official notice to approve 10 kinds of new food raw materials in China. More choices are available for food manufacturers. And for the imported foods that contain these raw materials, previously they cannot be imported due to the lack of edible basis in China, but now, relevant enterprises can consider the imports.

Details of these new food raw materials are as follows.

1

Shea butter (Sheanut oil, Shea oil)

Usage scope: chocolate, candy, ice cream, baked foods and frying oils, excluding infant food

2

Zeaxanthin

I. Usage scope: excluding infant food;

II. Dosage: 4mg/day (calculated as zeaxanthin )

3

Borojo powder

I. Unsuitable for infant, which shall be labelled on the Chinese label and specification;

II. Recommended dosage: 30g/day

4

Sialic acid

Recommended dosage: 500mg/day

5

Cis-15-Tetracosenoic Acid

I. Usage scope: edible oils, fats and emulsified fatty products, solid beverages, dairy products, candy, convenience foods;

II. Unsuitable for infant, which shall be labelled on the Chinese label and specification;

III. Recommended dosage: 300mg/day

6

Aqueous Extract of Seed of Broccoli

I. Usage scope: excluding infant food;

II. Recommended dosage: 1.8g/day

7

Rice bran fatty alcohol

I. Unsuitable for infant and pregnant women, which shall be labelled on the Chinese label and specification;

II. Recommended dosage: 300mg/day

Gamma-linolenic Acid Oil

Recommended dosage: 6g/day

9

Calcium β- hydroxy -β- methyl butyrate CaHMB

I. Usage scope: beverage, dairy and dairy products, cocoa products, chocolate and chocolate products, candy, baked foods, sports nutrition food, and foods for special medical purpose;

II. Unsuitable for infant, children and pregnant women, which shall be labelled on the Chinese label and specification;

III. Recommended dosage: 3g/day

10

Lithocarpus litseifolius folium

I. Unsuitable for infant, which shall be labelled on the Chinese label and specification;

II. Recommended dosage: 10g/day
